Its a great site for Americans of German heritage to learn more about their ancesors culture. It seems getting articles for the magazine must be hard since it is not updated as frequently as I would like. I'm going to Germany for my third visit in three years in May with my wife. Every trip I try to experience something new. The first trip it was the sites of Germany. The second trip it was Germany during Christmas. We also had the opportunity to stay with some German friends and see the country from their point of view. This time my wife and I are taking a German Language class so that we can experience more of the people's thoughts, culture etc. Would you be interested in an article about my trip, and if so would any particular topic be of interest to the other readers? Best Regards

I used to have many relatives there... Unfortuneatly, they have all passed, except for a cousin that I can't locate. So it is up to me, myself to rediscover my rich heriage. My cousins name is Andreas Pachali, and last lived in Falling Bostel. Wonderful site and as an ex-Army brat (military dependent) from my birth until 18 yrs of age it makes me feel like I almost lucky enough to live in a beautiful hospitable foreign nation such as Germany. I never had the pleasure of LIVING in Germany but our family visited there in the late 1950's on a trip when were were stationed in France for 3 years (I was an infant when arrived there and left at 3-years-old, wish I would have been old enough to appreciate it more!) and the entire family LOVED Germany in every way as it as a beautiful nation with friendly people, great cuisine and so much to do and see! Being 45-years-old and an ex-Army brat I grew up with MANY German war brides and luckily they and their families shared their culture, customs, language (I do not speak German fluently but I am trying to learn!) and fine cooking with me and other friends I had. I consider myself lucky to be raised around such warm, generous, lovable people most of whom can cook and are very hospitable, at least ALL the ones I grew up with were. It was like being part of an extended family and they always welcomed me in their homes no matter how well they knew me and always offered a German magazine, movie, beverage or food to me as their guest. I still have lots of friends who are either German, part German or just Americans of German ancestry and I have always loved this country and it's heritage, culture & history and I thank my childhood background for that, especially the wonderful and diverse food that Germany has to offer !! I wish everyone of German heritage and ancestry nothing but good things in this new millenium ! Hail to Germany and all it has to offer the world. I hope soon I can take a vacation there for at least two weeks!! : ) Ear hearty and save some German rye bread for me!!

In her usually thick accent she said, "Oh, I can't remember." Obviously, for her, the war will never be over. It has taken me some time, but I have been eager to find a history and a place for my inherited character, of which there is nothing to be ashamed and quietly proud. Through your site, I will be able to open some of the doors Helma Tresbach closed over 50 years ago. Thanx

Congratulations on a very interesting & informative site. I have noticed several references to the Pennsylvania "Dutch." Please know that the term is incorrect. We are, using the words of our dialect, pennsylfawnisch DEITSCH. Americans have mistranslated deitsch as dutch when, in fact, deitsch is the dialect word for GERMAN. All of us, therefore, whether "plain" Amish or "fancy" Lutherans are, in fact, Pennsylvania GERMAN. Again, I otherwise commend you for this very worth-while site.

I really love this sight andI'm glad I found it. I am really having a hard time finding anyone whois as interested in Germany as I am. I can't seem to find anything closeby where I can endulge my passion for the music, the language or the culture. What's really surprising is that that the community of Bucyrus where Ilive is supposedly a "German community." We even have a bratwurstfestival here and Bucyrus calls itself the "Bratwurst Capital"of America. If anyone is interested in corrosponding I would appreciatethat very much. Thanx, Steve Engelhorn
